Sovereign Tower Act 2 Walkthrough
Dragon Knight, murder investigation, county routes, and the King Slayer countdown
Act 2 is where Sovereign Tower stops teaching and starts demanding. The Round Table expands to eight knight slots, county alliances become active, and three major plot threads converge simultaneously: the Dragon Knight quest arc, the Tower murder mystery, and the beginning of the King Slayer countdown. Wild Wits designed Act 2 so that no single day feels impossible, but the compounding pressure of overlapping deadlines is the actual challenge. This walkthrough covers the critical decision points, the sequence of major events, and how to manage the eight-slot Round Table without losing knights to the murder investigation, the Grest pirates, or simple exhaustion.
This page assumes you have completed Act 1 and hit the preparation targets from the Act 1 Best Route guide. If you are mid-Act 1, finish that first.
Act 2 structure overview
Act 2 is organized around three overlapping pressure systems:
| System | Trigger | Deadline pressure | Consequence if ignored |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon Knight | Act 2 start | Cycles 2–4 of Act 2 | Act 2 cannot progress; major stat gate |
| Tower murder | Act 2 start | Cycles 4–6 of Act 2 | Knight loss, faction instability |
| County routes | Act 2 start | Ongoing | Locked late-game options |
King Slayer appears mid-to-late Act 2 as a fourth pressure system. The King Slayer Walkthrough covers that countdown in detail.
The Dragon Knight gate
The Dragon Knight is Act 2’s first major gate. You must complete the quest arc to unlock Act 3. It tests the preparation you built in Act 1.
Requirements for the Dragon Knight quest:
- 6+ knights on the Round Table
- At least one knight with STR 10+
- At least one knight with AGI 8+
- Armor at 80%+ on likely assigned knights
- 400+ gold reserve for emergency repairs
The Beat the Dragon Knight guide covers the quest’s specific challenges. The summary: bring your best combat knights, do not send a damaged knight on a 5+ Damage Risk assignment, and do not attempt the Dragon Knight if your Treasury is below 200 gold.
The Tower murder mystery
The Tower murder is a plotline that begins in early Act 2 regardless of your Act 1 branch. Gwendan is the central figure — he is either the perpetrator, the victim, or a witness depending on your choices and which investigation paths you pursue.
Key decision points in the murder plotline:
- First investigation — interview knights and staff, gather evidence. Your Intendant investigations reveal Gwendan’s true nature here.
- Accusation or intervention — you can confront Gwendan directly, protect him, or investigate further. Each choice affects which knights remain available.
- The rewind decision — if the murder happens and you want to prevent it, you need a Demon rewind to before the event. This counts as +1 corruption.
- Post-murder recovery — if Gwendan dies, his quests, stat bonuses, and romance options are permanently lost on that save.
The Stop the Act 2 Murder guide covers the full investigation sequence. Read it before you reach Cycle 4 of Act 2.
Grest Pirate Quest
The Grest pirates appear mid-Act 2 as a timed emergency. This is one of the most punishing quest sequences in the game — the deadline is real, the combat is difficult, and the consequences of failure cascade into late Act 2.
Key Grest pirate facts:
- Deadline is real — the harbor burns if you fail.
- Patch 1.0.8 added one cycle to the deadline — a community-requested quality-of-life improvement.
- Requires a mix of combat and exploration knights — pure combat or pure diplomacy teams may struggle.
- Munster cheese drop from Gavault noble contract spying (Patch 1.0.11) can help with alchemy solutions.
The Grest Pirate Quest walkthrough covers the full sequence with stat requirements.
County alliances and South Bay
Between the Dragon Knight and the murder investigation, Act 2 activates the county alliance system. Each county offers quests, trade routes, and eventually alliance options that feed into Golden Key preparation.
The most important Act 2 county is South Bay — it offers the wish-granting lamp that can recruit Ligia and secure a powerful political alliance. The South Bay lamp route takes three cycles and must be started before late Act 2 or it conflicts with King Slayer timing.
The South Bay Lamp walkthrough covers Yannis, the Djinn Island, and the lamp mechanics. The Yohav and Enberg walkthrough covers the late Act 2 / Act 3 assassination and diplomacy forks.
The eight-slot Round Table
Act 2 expands your Round Table from 6 to 8 knight slots. This sounds like relief but it is actually a trap — more slots mean more knights can be away simultaneously, which means more opportunities to accidentally strand your only specialist on a five-cycle expedition when you need them for a sudden crisis.
Rule for Act 2 Round Table management:
Never fill more than 6 of 8 slots with single-knight assignments. Keep 2 slots free for emergencies and sudden crisis assignments. A fully committed Round Table with no flexibility is a single bad RNG roll away from a cascade failure.
King Slayer countdown
Mid-to-late Act 2, the King Slayer countdown begins. Once five circles appear on the quest tracker, you have approximately five cycles to complete the King Slayer quest before it permanently locks Act 3 progression.
The King Slayer is not optional. Unlike other late-Act 2 content that you can ignore or defer, the King Slayer is a hard gate.
From the moment the five circles appear:
- Stop starting new multi-cycle quests. Every cycle counts.
- Finish routes already in progress rather than starting new ones.
- Prepare your party for the King Slayer’s stat requirements: 4 knights minimum, specific STR/AGI/WIT spread.
- Do not rewind for minor mistakes during this window — save rewind charges for genuine King Slayer failures.
The King Slayer Walkthrough covers the full five-cycle sequence and the Demon checkpoint that follows.
Act 2 to Act 3 transition
Act 2 ends when you complete the King Slayer quest and receive the Spectral Eye reward. This transitions to Act 3, which is the final preparation phase before the Cycle 45 finale.
Before transitioning to Act 3, confirm:
- Dragon Knight complete.
- Tower murder resolved (one way or another).
- At least one county alliance active.
- South Bay lamp route started or complete.
- King Slayer complete.
- Gold reserve 400+ (Act 3 repairs and annexes are expensive).
- At least 7 knights on the Round Table (Act 3 finale needs 6+).
The Act 3 Walkthrough covers the final phase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
When does Act 2 begin in Sovereign Tower?
Act 2 begins after completing the Dragon Knight quest arc. The transition is marked by the Round Table expanding from 6 to 8 slots and county alliance quests becoming available.
Can I ignore the Tower murder in Act 2?
No. The murder plotline has permanent consequences if left unresolved — knight loss, faction instability, and locked story routes. Address it by Cycle 4 of Act 2 at the latest.
What happens if I fail the Grest pirate deadline?
The harbor burns, resulting in significant faction penalties and potentially losing access to the South Bay alliance route. Patch 1.0.8 added one cycle to the deadline specifically to reduce this risk.
How do I prepare for the King Slayer countdown?
Stop starting new multi-cycle quests when the five circles appear. Finish routes already in progress and prepare a 4+ knight party with specific STR/AGI/WIT spread requirements detailed in the King Slayer Walkthrough.
What is the minimum knight count for Act 2?
Six knights minimum for Dragon Knight. The murder investigation may temporarily reduce available knights. Act 3 needs 7+ for the finale. Recruit Chester, Sparky/Rufus/Silgur, and Brunhilda during Act 1 and early Act 2 to maintain adequate roster depth.
