Save your lowest-affinity knight from the traitor's blade

How to Stop the Act 2 Murder

Act 2 contains a murder. A traitor inside your Round Table selects your lowest-affinity knight and attempts an assassination during a crisis week. If you do nothing, that knight dies — and unlike Goberto’s death for Dulahan, this one is pure loss with no recruitment upside. Wild Wits confirmed the assassination on Yorhav as a named case in Patch 1.0.10, which fixed the bug where Yorhav did not die correctly when assassinated. The murder mechanism itself remains in the game; stopping it requires knowing the targeting rule and acting before the traitor strikes.

This page is for players who want to prevent the death, not witness it. Read Character Endings after saving your knight if you want the epilogue slide variation that involves the late-game funeral.

How the murder targeting works

The traitor chooses your lowest-affinity knight at the moment the assassination fires. Affinity is the hidden relationship meter that runs from roughly -10 to +10 — the same value that triggers resignation near -7. Knights with few meals, no romanced conversations, or repeated disliked quest dispatches sit lowest on this scale.

The targeting is fixed once the assassination week begins. You cannot rewind the death after it occurs and restore the knight to life; you can only rewind to before the assassination week and fix the affinity problem.

Patch 1.0.10 fixed a case where Yorhav could fail to die when assassinated. Yorhav is documented as one target — the general pattern is your weakest relationship, not a specific character.

Step-by-step prevention

  1. Identify your lowest-affinity knight before Act 2 crisis weeks. Check the Intendant investigations and note which knights have received few meals or repeated disliked dispatches.
  2. Raise affinity on the target knight with their favourite meal from the Cooking guide. One Préfou or Galette-Saucisse adds approximately +1.5 affinity.
  3. Assign the knight to a safe, short quest that runs through the assassination window. A knight on an active Round Table assignment may be protected from the traitor’s blade.
  4. Keep a save before the crisis week in case the affinity trick fails on your build. Demon Time Rewind can reset to before the murder if you preserved a pre-week save.

Why players miss the warning

The assassination fires during a crisis that demands your attention — a faction revolt, a pirate emergency, or a multi-day hunt deadline. The traitor’s blade blends into the chaos, and the death debrief does not explicitly name the murderer as an inside job. Players assume a quest failure killed their knight; only the survivor count and epilogue slides reveal it was targeted.

Relationship with other routes

The Act 2 murder does not gate any recruits directly. Its consequence is purely narrative — a dead knight cannot attend the Cycle 45 Emperor ultimatum, cannot appear in romance ending slides, and cannot contribute to New Game Plus knowledge. If you want every character in your final slides, prevent this death.

The Rebellion Walkthrough involves Mathilda and Brunhilda in an Act 1 thread that runs parallel to, but does not overlap with, the Act 2 murder. Do not confuse the two story deaths.

Common failure patterns

  • Assuming quest failure killed the knight — the death debrief can read similarly to a Critical Failure result. Check whether the knight was assigned to a quest that cycle before assuming it was the traitor.
  • Feeding the wrong knight — if you raise affinity on your second-lowest instead of the actual target, the traitor still strikes.
  • Rewinding after the death — Demon rewinds restore a pre-assassination state only if you target a save before the crisis week began. Mid-week rewinds may not undo the flag correctly.
  • Confusing Yorhav’s patch fix with murder prevention — Patch 1.0.10 fixed Yorhav not dying when assassinated, not the assassination mechanism itself.

The Act 2 murder is avoidable. Know your lowest affinity, feed that knight, and keep them dispatched through the crisis window — or lose them to a blade you never saw coming.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do you stop the Act 2 murder in Sovereign Tower?

Raise affinity on your lowest-relationship knight with their favourite meal and keep them dispatched on a safe quest through the assassination week.

Who does the traitor target?

The lowest-affinity knight in your roster at the moment the assassination fires.

Does Patch 1.0.10 prevent the murder?

No. It fixed a bug where Yorhav failed to die correctly when assassinated, not the assassination mechanism itself.

Can you rewind after the murder to save the knight?

Only if you have a save from before the crisis week. Mid-assassination rewinds may not restore the dead knight correctly.
