Sovereign Tower How to Recruit Knights

Standard recruitment, story gates, and secret character pointers

How to Recruit Knights

Recruitment in Sovereign Tower is slower and stranger than a typical RPG tavern montage. Wild Wits ties new knights to story beats, tower exploration, faction standing, and — for optional characters — community-discovered demo puzzles involving beasts, geese, and Demon rewinds. Curve Games’ solo management RPG launches August 6, 2026 on Steam; until then, the Act 0 and Act 1 demo is the best laboratory for learning who joins when, and why a full roster makes the Round Table easier to survive.

This guide covers standard recruitment first, then points to spoiler pages for secrets without duplicating every flag list.

Recruitment basics

Knights appear on your roster when:

  • Main story milestones unlock Round Table seats.
  • Exploration discoveries trigger introduction scenes in annexes or corridors.
  • Quest outcomes convince wavering characters to swear fealty.
  • Optional routes satisfy hidden requirements — see Secret Knights.

Recruitment is not always immediate assignment availability. Some knights swear oaths then sit out injured, training, or story locked until the next day phase.

Standard demo roster (non-secret)

These knights form the backbone most saves see without guide assistance:

Angelica

Angelica tends to arrive early through main story Round Table formation. She immediately improves Charisma coverage for Noble and People quests. Keep her unassigned before beast-hunt windows if you later pursue Sparky routes — detailed on the secret page.

Gwendan

Gwendan follows quickly as the demo’s Wit anchor for Scholars and treasury puzzles. If Gwendan is late appearing, you likely skipped an exploration prompt after audience — backtrack tower wings the Intendant mentioned.

Ursula

Ursula recruitment often intersects covert quest success and faction balance. Low People standing delays friendly intros; check Factions if she never triggers.

Gideon

Gideon appears when the story needs a Strength knight for Merchants or defense quests. Forge annex progress accelerates his utility once gear crafting opens on Annexes.

Goberto

Goberto rounds out early physical coverage. Remember his death opens Dulahan in reported secret routes — plan intentionally if you want that unlock.

Exploration and annex hooks

The Lady of the Tower oversees annex wings like forge and alchemy. Upgrading or first-time entering these spaces spawns cutscenes that sometimes precede recruitment beats or trial quests for prospective knights.

Practical habits:

  • Visit new annex icons the day they appear on the map.
  • Bring appropriate knights to exploration events when the game suggests a stat — preview of Round Table logic.
  • Bank crafting materials before recruitment trials that implicitly expect boosted gear.

Annex recruitment is easy to miss if you rush straight to Round Table assignments every evening.

Intendant secrets and hidden applicants

The Intendant collects secrets during audiences and exploration. Some secrets do not recruit knights directly but flip dialogue flags required for optional characters later — especially Rufus magical trace routes and Brunhilda rebellion knowledge.

When the Intendant offers to “remember something,” assume it is a future recruitment key unless proven otherwise.

Secret knights: where to look next

Optional recruits are documented in depth elsewhere to keep spoiler density manageable:

Recruitment versus optimization

Recruiting everyone is not mandatory for enjoying the story. If you prefer organic discovery:

  1. Play through How to Play until Act 1 quests stabilize.
  2. Recruit missing stat niches when failures repeat — consult Knight Stats.
  3. Open secret guides only when a blank roster slot annoys you.

Optimizers should pair this page with Tier List and the Quest Matcher immediately after each new oath scene.

Failed recruitment and soft locks

Demo players report soft locks when:

  • Faction standing blocks intro scenes (fix audiences before rewinding).
  • Beast hunt outcomes exclude alternate recruits until rewind.
  • Quest failure kills a knight required as a gate — ironic but possible with Goberto-Dulahan chains.

When in doubt, finish the in-game day, check Quest Success, then consider crypt rewinds rather than deleting saves.

Post-recruitment checklist

After each new knight:

  • Update mental coverage for five stats.
  • Re-run failing quests from the assignment log.
  • Check romance or loyalty arcs on Romance Guide if scenes change tone.
  • Note demo patch differences on Release and Demo.

Recruitment is the tower expanding its voice choir. Standard knights teach the melody; secret knights add the dissonant harmony that makes second playthroughs worthwhile.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do you recruit knights in Sovereign Tower?

Knights join through story milestones, tower exploration, successful quest chains, and optional secret routes. Standard members appear in Act 0 and Act 1 without guides; secrets need [Secret Knights](/knights/secret-knights/).

Can I miss knights permanently in the demo?

Some routes conflict until you use the Demon's time rewind. Rarely is a knight permanently locked unless you abandon a save — see [Time Rewind](/guides/time-rewind/).

Do annexes recruit knights directly?

Annexes trigger scenes and trials that lead to recruitment beats. They rarely add knights without accompanying story or quest conditions.

Which recruit should I prioritize first?

Prioritize covering your weakest stat after a week of quests. Usually Wit (Gwendan) or Charisma (Angelica) gaps hurt most early — verify with [Stats](/knights/stats/).
